Beasts, big and small, say hello to Stettler residents
September 6th, 2023
“In every living thing there is the desire for love.” – D.H. Lawrence.
It was an afternoon of relaxing and companionship. In late August 2023, residents at Points West Living Stettler enjoyed an adventure to Spirit’s Respite Ranch, a therapeutic ranch northeast of Stettler where seniors are invited to connect with friends and animals.
Here, residents got the opportunity to feed goats, sheep and swan geese. “Some of the animals were so eager for the special treat that they would push each other on the fence line to be the first one to the treats,” said Nicole Fischer, Recreation Therapist. “This made many residents laugh!”
Resident Diane Hay was one of the participants. “I liked the geese,” she said. “I couldn’t believe they came right up to you and didn’t peck you. It’s like they wanted to talk.”
While watching kids and teens ride horses around the arena, the residents were also able to pet dogs and other horses and cuddle kittens.
“The animals snuggled right in, with some even nudging residents’ arms and legs to get more love,” said Nicole. “Overall, it was a fun day of smiles and laughs with the animals, which left an impact on the residents’ hearts.”
